## What is the Detentions Register?
The Detentions Register lets staff create and manage detentions, then record attendance for each detention session. Detentions are created from the Reports section and then managed through the Detentions Register.
## Creating a detention
Detentions are created from **Reports → Detentions & Exclusions** (`/#/reports/detentions-exclusions`):
1. Go to **Reports → Detentions & Exclusions**.
2. Tap the **Create detention** button.
3. A form opens (bottom sheet). Fill in: - **Type** of detention (dropdown — pre-loaded detention types) - **Room** (dropdown — the room where the detention takes place) - **Start time** and **End time** (time pickers) - **Reason** (text area — describe why the detention was given) - **Students** — select pupils from the list to include in this detention.
4. Tap **Save** to create the detention. Confirmation: **Detention created successfully**.
## Taking the detention register
## Taking the detention register
Once a detention exists, go to `/#/attendance/detentions-register` to take the register:
1. The page opens with a **Select a Detention** heading showing available detention sessions.
2. Tap the detention session you want to mark.
3. The register loads, showing each pupil assigned to that detention.
4. Tap the attendance button for each pupil (present/absent).
5. Tap **Submit** to save.
Confirmation: **Attendance submitted**.
## Tips
- Only School Admins and Head Teachers can create and manage detentions — teachers record incidents via the Behaviour section, but detention management is an admin function.- If a pupil did not attend their detention, you may want to follow up by recording a new incident or escalating via the Behaviour section.- Detention records feed into the **Detentions & Exclusions** report under Reports, giving you a log of all detentions for the academic year.
